Eve online is a MMOG that takes place in a science fiction space setting. Players fly custom made ships through the universe of over 5000 solar systems. Most of these solar systems are connected to other solar systems with jump gates. Players are able to participate in a number of professions and activities, including manufacturing, mining, trade and combat. The range of available activities for the player is based upon the characters advancement in real time, even if you are not logged into the game!
The story is set 35,000 years in the future and the background story describes that long ago humanity has used up most of the Earth's resources and began colonizing the rest of the Milky Way and eventually the most of the galaxy. But soon war broke out because of resources being contested.
